Gabon has announced the 10th licensing round to take place in 2010. The new Oil Minister, Mr. Julien Nkoghe Bekale, will formally announce the opening at a conference in Libreville on 27 October 2010. This will be followed by road shows in Cape Town (2-5 October) Paris (9 November), Houston (12 November) and Singapore (18 November).
The deadline for bid submissions is May 2011.
Emphasis is being placed on the deep water, with two zones being defined: Zone Nord, where the targets are post-salt, and Zone Sud, where targets are predominantly pre-salt. Recent major discoveries in the deepwater basins offshore Brazil have heightened interest in Gabon.
Oil production in Gabon peaked at 370,000 bo/d in 1997 but has declined since, although 10 new fields have been brought on stream since then, including Etame, Toucan, and Tsengui. Oil production has most recently been estimated by official sources at 243,000 bo/d.
