Web-enabled seismic and wireline log viewers

GIS web portals and virtual data rooms are contributing to increasing demands for thin-client visualisation of digital seismic data and wireline log data. Lynx now offers new HTML5-compatible viewers for modern web browsers which provide interactive display of 2D and 3D seismic data (iSeisview) and wireline logs (iLogview). These apps can be configured either as self-contained viewers, with integrated basemap display and list selection, or they can be linked with your existing web-mapping applications using the RESTful API.

Lynx iSeisview is a web-enabled seismic viewer app for displaying 2D and 3D seismic profiles in a standard web browser. You can explore an interactive demo of 2D seismic lines here: https://data.lynxinfo.co.uk/apps/iseisview/SWApproachesSeismic, and a demo of 3D seismic surveys here: https://data.lynxinfo.co.uk/apps/iseisview/ukogl3d.

iSeisview shows seismic profiles with interpreted horizons, faults and line intersections in an interactive web browser window, compatible with any modern web browser.

iLogview shows wireline logs in a familiar interactive composite log display. Formation tops and core photos can be added in separate tracks.

iLogview V1.0 is due for release in autumn 2015. Please get in touch if you would like an early evaluation.

The server requirements for iSeisview and iLogview are:

  • Microsoft Windows Server
  • Apache Tomcat 8 (or newer)
  • Java JRE 8
  • Oracle Spatial 11g R2 (optional)

iSeisview – seismic data prerequisites:

  • 2D seismic data – SEG-Y (or SEG-Y Revision 1) format
  • 3D seismic data – SEG-Y Revision 1 format
  • Seismic metadata (line/survey name, shotpoint/inline/crossline range, SEG-Y filepath) in an Oracle database table, CSV file or shapefile
  • Optional seismic line locations or survey polygon outlines in KML, Oracle Spatial or shapefile format for built-in map display and line-intersection display

iLogview – wireline log data prerequisites:

  • LAS format
  • Log metadata (well name, start/stop depths, curve list) and curve dictionary (display scale and track number for each curve) in Oracle database tables or CSV files
  • Optional well locations in KML, Oracle Spatial or shapefile format for built-in map display

iSeisview and iLogview may be licensed for internal use within your organisation, or for external use on public-facing websites. We can also provide short-term hosting solutions for virtual data rooms and farm-outs.

If you have any questions about the technical implementation of iSeisview and iLogview, queries about the licensing and deployment options, or if you would like to arrange an evaluation, please contact us.

Iran Petroleum Contract and New E&P Opportunities in Iran

Following the news of a positive conclusion to negotiations in Vienna between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries, international oil companies are once again expected to turn their attention towards E&P opportunites in Iran just as soon as sanctions are fully lifted.

The Iranian Ministry of Petroleum, together with the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), has already devised a new set of terms for encouraging investment from foreign companies, in a new format being presented to industry called the Iran Petroleum Contract (IPC).

40+ field development projects have already been marked for investment as part of the IPC: The map beneath provides a snapshot of these project areas.

NIOC priority projects 1&2

Lynx offers a comprehensive Exploration Adviser GIS dataset for Iran with an associated Hydrocarbon Evaluation report, combining results from historic seismic and drilling programmes with interpreted maps, field data, and summary field sheets with coverage over these IPC project areas. Please contact us for further details.

William Smith’s Maps – Interactive Website Launched at The Geological Society with special guest speaker Sir David Attenborough, and Lynx’s Peter Wigley

The Geological Society of London officially kicked off a year-long programme of events in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the publication of William Smith’s map “A delineation of the strata of England and Wales with part of Scotland” in 1815, with the launch of the William Smith’s Maps – Interactive website. William Smith’s map was the worlds first geological map, created by the surveying efforts and geological insights of William Smith and the first practical application of the principles of lithostratigraphy and biostratigraphy.

The launch event was held in Burlington House on 23rd March, coinciding with what would have been William Smith’s (often referred to as the “Father of English Geology”) birthday. It was attended by Sir David Attenborough, who unveiled a plaque at Smith’s former London home, and also introduced the new interactive website, www.strata-smith.com, which allows users to view all the known surviving editions of the Smith Map, overlay with modern geology. Smith’s cross sections can also be viewed in comparison with modern seismic data.

The development of this website was sponsored by UKOGL, and developed by Lynx Information Systems. The website has been specifically developed to host a number of fine examples of William Smith’s 1815 map, and is a free -to-all educational resource designed for teachers, students, academics and anybody with an interest in the life and work of William Smith.

Using Lynx’s expertise and experience has enabled the website to feature many great things such as a ‘live’ interactive map viewer. This enables users to not only view the maps but also to overlay one against another and compare them with modern geology, wells, seismic sections (using Lynx’s online SEG-Y viewer), and current topographic maps. Users can also display Smith’s geological sections and view 3D animations of his maps.

Lynx’s very own Peter Wigley gave a fantastic demonstration of the Strata-Smith website during the launch.

Egypt 2015 bid rounds – EGAS and Ganope

Egypt is looking to attract further investment into its exploration scene with the recent opening of two bid rounds:

Ganoub El Wadi Holding Petroleum Company (Ganope) was first to announce its latest bid round in December 2014, and has recently extended the closing date for bids until 31st May 2015. The offer involves 10 blocks located in areas around the southern tip of the Gulf of Suez and the Eastern Desert. Visit the Ganope website for further details.

The second, more recently announced by Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), involves eight blocks located offshore in the Nile Delta region, and also has a closing date of 31st May 2015. Visit the EGAS website.

Block polygons for both bid rounds can be viewed and downloaded from our Interactive Licensing Round Map

Lynx Information Systems Ltd and partner Fairway Exploration have recently undertaken an extensive review of exploration results and activity in Egypt over the past three years, which although subdued in part by political turmoil, has yielded further insights into it’s hydrocarbon potential. These results have been incorporated into a 2015 version of our Egypt Exploration Adviser GIS, for which more information is detailed here and also Egypt_Flyer_2015.

Please contact us for further information or for a detailed presentation of this comprehensive exploration dataset.

Lynx Information Systems Celebrates our 25th Year Anniversary 1989 – 2014!

2014 has been a major milestone year for Lynx Information Systems. 25 years ago, two well established Geophysicists, Dr Charles Hewlett and Dr Peter Wigley, transformed and revolutionised they way we viewed and analysed G&G exploration data.

Back in 1989 Charles Hewlett had designed and created a method to take paper seismic displays and convert them to digital SEG-Y data for the emerging presence of workstations in G&G offices.

From it’s beginnings as just a vision of two individuals, to evolving as one of the world leaders in spatial data management and the digital reconstruction of exploration and production data, Lynx has always maintained the core values of it’s founders of harmony, sincerity, and pioneering spirit.

Join us as we mark this milestone anniversary year and help us set the tone for our next 25 years!
